Academies
Our academies are designed to prepare our scholars for college and career through dual enrollment and real-world experience. Scholars in each academy will have the option of pursuing their career path by enrolling in one of the many fantastic local colleges or universities including Grand Valley State University, Kendall College of Art and Design, and Grand Rapids Community College. A theme school application is required to participate in our academies.
Academy of Hospitality & Tourism
Through the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism at OHHS, scholars can explore and jump-start career paths in one of the world's largest industries, including lodging, sports, entertainment, travel, food, and event management.
By partnering with local businesses, scholars will engage in experiential opportunities to round out their education. Business partners strengthen real-world connections for scholars through advisory boards and as mentors.
Academy of Media Production
No industry is advancing and evolving as much as media production.Technological advances, changes in how the populace consumes media, and changing demographics have led to a rapidly changing media landscape.
The Academy of Media Production at OHHS will prepare scholars with the advanced skills and abilities necessary to pursue a successful career in the development and/or delivery of media, whether it be radio, television, online, social media, or print.
Programs
Early Middle College Program
Early Middle College is a 13th year experience allowing scholars to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 transferable credits and/or an association degree while attending Ottawa Hills High School. Approved through the Michigan Department of Education, Ottawa's EMC program is the only program of its kind in the City of Grand Rapids, giving scholars a unique opportunity to start and stay in college.
Advanced Placement (AP)
This program offers high school scholars the ability to take college level courses and exams. These programs were created to be at the same level of most first-year university courses. If the scholars are successful in the AP programs, they have the opportunity to receive advanced placement credit or exemptions when they go on to university. At Ottawa Hills High School, many of our upper classmen take AP courses.
