Grand Rapids Montessori: the ONLY public middle high Montessori program in West Michigan!
Dr. Maria Montessori, the Italian pediatrician who founded the Montessori method, believed self-motivation was the key to learning. The Montessori teacher acts as a facilitator of that learning, stimulating interest in all facets of a scholar-centered learning environment. Montessori education recognizes the importance of all developmental areas, including social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs. At Grand Rapids Montessori, we work hard to support scholars’ development in each of those areas.
The Montessori Classroom: The Montessori method uses hands-on lessons and experiences to help scholars learn by doing. Typically, scholars will have the same teacher for multiple years, and the multi-age classroom allows the scholars to become part of a learning community that fosters respect, understanding, and tolerance. At the middle/high, scholars are also given the opportunity to take advanced courses and courses for college credit. We truly have it all!
At Grand Rapids Montessori Middle High School, your child will…
- receive lessons as he/she/they are ready for them.
- learn how to focus and concentrate.
- become a self-directed learner.
- achieve independence.
- learn order.
- be treated with respect and dignity.

A passion for basketball, a love of math and a keen sense of sportsmanship pushed Kyler Jackson to the front of thousands of students hoping to participate in the NBA Math Hoops Global Championship in late June.

Grand Rapids Public Schools has released a tentative calendar to help families and staff begin planning for the 2025-26 school year.

In a recent training session, a participant shared something that stayed with me. While I’m paraphrasing, the essence of what they shared was this: “I’m always being told what to do—but never why. It’s just, ‘That’s the way we do things,’ even when it impacts other people.”
